The Aluminium housing splits in two to reveal the steel flywheel , which is driven by a universal 24V DC motor.

The flywheel and motor armature were balanced individually, before assembly. Holes were drilled in the armature steel laminations where necessary to balance the armature. The flywheel was accurately machined, so it was naturally balanced without resorting to drilling holes.

After the armature was installed, the combination was then dynamically balanced using small brass inserts around the flywheel periphery, on both sides of the flywheel.

The armature ran in self-aligning double race ball bearings, which took both end and side thrust. What lubricant was used is unknown, as the races appear to be dry.
