This unit contains a maximum of 12 pencil galvanometers in a block permanent magnet. They are driven by a bank of amplifiers to record seismic shot data from geophones. Two banks are usually required to give 24 channels of data from one seismic shot. The data is recorded on to a photo-sensitive paper strip, up to 4 or 5 seconds of data.

These units could be used in the field to collect data or at base to process corrected data.

Data would also be recorded on magnetic tape.
